Le lundi 6 mars 2023, chargé de 20 kilogrammes de matériel, j'ai entrepris une randonnée de 5 kilomètres dans la neige pour enregistrer les sons du glacier de Zinal (Suisse, Val d'Anniviers) et composer un nouvel album intitulé "Le Chant de la Glace". Ce projet un peu fou avait pris vie dans mon esprit fin d'année 2022, alors même que je n'avais aucune expérience dans l'enregistrement de ce type de sons. J'ai dû investir dans un matériel très spécifique, apprendre à m'en servir et me lancer dans cette aventure.

Plonger au cœur d'un glacier, c'est s'aventurer dans les méandres du temps, un voyage à rebours où chaque cristal de glace renferme une histoire. Des millions de bulles d'air, captives dans leur prison de glace, témoignent d'un passé lointain, tentant en vain de s'échapper, mais condamnées à l'immobilité éternelle. Parmi ces bulles, des insectes semblent avoir été figés dans l'ambre d'un bleu clair et pur, préservés depuis des éons, témoins silencieux d'époques que seule la glace peut se remémorer.

Au fil de l'exploration, des blocs de roche lissés et arrondis par le tumulte des eaux souterraines captivent l'attention. Façonnés par la force inéluctable de la rivière glacière, ils portent les stigmates d'un passé mouvementé, parfois enveloppés dans un manteau de glace translucide où de fins courants circulent, révélant des bulles d'air en mouvement telles une foule de petits esprits pressés de rejoindre l'océan lointain.

À travers cette expérience, j'ai voulu mettre en lumière la vie à l'intérieur d'un glacier, offrir une expérience immersive et ludique au cœur des glaces anciennes pour sensibiliser sur la fragilité de ces environnements due au réchauffement climatique.

J'espère que ce projet vous transportera comme il m'a fait voyager. Je l'ai imaginé comme une épopée aquatique, à l'image de la topographie riche de ce lieu : de plaques de glace à l'eau ruisselante à des stalagmites imposants, en passant par les entrailles sombres et mystérieuses où la lumière ne pénètre presque plus.

On Monday, March 6, 2023, laden with 20 kilograms of equipment, I embarked on a 5-kilometer hike in the snow to record the sounds of the Zinal Glacier (Switzerland, Val d'Anniviers) and compose a new album titled "The Song of Ice." This somewhat crazy project had come to life in my mind at the end of 2022, even though I had no experience in recording this type of sounds. I had to invest in very specific equipment, learn to use it, and embark on this adventure.

Diving into the heart of a glacier is venturing into the twists and turns of time, a journey backwards where each ice crystal holds a story. Millions of air bubbles, trapped in their icy prison, bear witness to a distant past, futilely attempting to escape but doomed to eternal stillness. Among these bubbles, insects seem to have been frozen in the amber of a clear and pure blue, preserved for eons, silent witnesses to epochs that only ice can recall.

As the exploration unfolds, blocks of rock smoothed and rounded by the tumult of underground waters captivate attention. Shaped by the inexorable force of the glacial river, they bear the scars of a tumultuous past, sometimes enveloped in a mantle of translucent ice where fine currents flow, revealing moving air bubbles like a crowd of little spirits eager to reach the distant ocean.

Through this experience, I wanted to shed light on life inside a glacier, offering an immersive and playful experience in the heart of ancient ice to raise awareness of the fragility of these environments due to climate change.

I hope this project will transport you as it has transported me. I imagined it as an aquatic epic, reflecting the rich topography of this place: from ice plates to trickling water to imposing stalagmites, through dark and mysterious depths where light hardly penetrates anymore.
